We love you Ireland

An historic day for Ireland as they vote YES to legalising Gay Marriage. Hundreds of "Yes" supporters gathered in the grounds of Dublin Castle and cheered and waved rainbow flags as the results came through.

Ireland is the first country in the world to do so through the ballot box. Some 1.2 million people backed the "yes" campaign in the nationwide poll, which saw a voter turnout of more than 60%.

Irish people from around the world travelled home to take part in the referendum, which came only 22 years after homosexuality was decriminalised.

"With today's vote we have disclosed who we are: a generous, compassionate, bold and joyful people," Prime Minister Enda Kenny said, welcoming the outcome Saturday, according to the Associated Press.

In a fitting coincidence, rainbows were seen over Dublin and Cork as the final results came in.

We're so proud of you Ireland...
